You're lookin' out the kitchen window. Wait -- is that a UFO?

Now there are two of them!

Then you turn around and see the dining room light shining bright.

Mystery solved. Whew.

In memory of elleng, who got the most out of her Nikon Coolpix P900.

Near as I can tell this was elleng's last post in the Photography Forum —

Random photos — elleng had a great eye for photography.

In this posting she named her camera in a shot of ORION'S BELT!

For Shadow Monday we went to get the mail, played Jolly Ball and Shadow rolled.

Asked Shadow to go check the mail, so she grabbed up her Jolly Ball.

Per JollyBallRules, she set the ball down and waited for me to kick it.

Which I did, but I mis-kicked.

She was on it in a flash.

Scooped it up and trotted back for more.

But she dropped the ball and decided to go for a roll instead.

We came back inside, Shadow got a drink of water and collapsed on her day bed.

As Shadow settles in for a nap, we'll say Nite Nite and Thanks for visiting!

Sunday Go 'Round The Farm -- Barn Update Overdue

Laurie stood, looking out the kitchen window recently, thinking how she was supposed to have had a barn well before now.

Recalling work she'd done inside the structure, like renting a flat-plate compactor to even out the barn floor. (Our puppy-niece Pepper "helped".)

Barn inside after floor compacting and drilling post holes.

The new contractor, call him C, has been inconsistent. He had unreliable help.
So C worked alone. Here, looking at what still needs to be done.

And, by himself, getting it done.

Shadow saw no need for supervision, so she had a good roll instead.

That same day Laurie took delivery of two pallets of "mud grids" for the
barn floor and paddocks.

Screenshot from an online mud grid manufacturer showing how horses benefit
from standing out of the mud. That's what Laurie plans for Maddie and Pete.

And so, friends, that's as far as we've gotten. C is back on the job.
We've not given up hope.

Saturday Horsies Today we look into the past. At our former farm and some of the horses who graced our pastures.

R.T. boarded with us for nearly 15 years in his retirement. His initials stand for Royal Tardez.

He lived to be thirty-seven and a half and was buried on the farm.

Here's our granddaughter on RT.

Optimystic was another retired boarder.

Nicknamed Mystie by his owner, he liked to help out around the barn.

Mystic always grew a good winter coat.

For ten years we hosted horsemanship clinics at the farm. Typically riders and instructors
got together to discuss what riders wanted to get out of the clinic before starting.

Boarders (L-R) Mystic, Charlie Brown and Narj, watching riders at a clinic.

Clinic participants would warm up in the arena and then head out to the obstacle/trail course
that my wife Laurie built. Riders and horses were challenged by a wide variety of obstacles,
such as
The Pond —

The Big Jump Log —

And The Suspension Bridge. Over which most riders crossed like this —

but every once in a while someone would want to just get it over with —

We held a few clinics in which riders' horses learned how to track a "cow", pulled up and down a fenceline.

Clinics were infrequent; however, riders locally and from far away were drawn to the trail course. Often friends would make a reservation and have the whole course to themselves for as long as
they wanted to ride.

If you'd like to see more about the trail course and horsie photos, please check out my photo site at
https://www.flickr.com/people/203800922@N03/
If you click on "Albums", a page will appear, at the top of which in the far right corner will be
"View collections". Please click on that link to see eight albums of horses; including one about
the "Obstacle/Trail Horse-Course".
Thanks!

About George McGovern

I chose George McGovern for my username because I voted wholeheartedly for him for president. Broke my heart when he lost. I consider Mr. McGovern the greatest president who never was. Avatar image is our beloved puppy dog Shadow.
